Growing tulips this spring definitely taught me several lessons. A couple varieties didn’t really make the cut but there are some I can’t wait to grow more of next year. The wind and the rain over the weekend really took their toll on the field. I will make sure next year to have some protection and we are in the process of building a hedge row on the west side of the farm. Also due to the driest April in 40 years our early tulip blooms were shorter than to be expected but the late bloomers definitely got some serious length to them.

I will be listing some of my very favorite varieties soon and we will be taking preorders for those that have asked if we will be selling bulbs.

I am still surprised by the Green Power tulip and think it must get its name from being the toughest tulip I have ever laid my eyes on. Green Power takes the cake for standing strong despite the rain and wind while other tulips lost petals the green power just stood tall and strong along with Queen of the Night.

If you are still wanting a spring tulip bouquet you can order online while they last but I am sad to say they will be gone in the next couple weeks.

I’m happy to see peonies and irises budding and some roses getting blooms. Our anemones and ranunculus will be blooming later than I hoped but I will get the timing down just right for Mother’s Day next year!
